A selection of recent oil paintings by Douglas Williamson produced at The Nerdrum School in Norway.
Douglas Williamson is a “Kitsch” painter.
The Kitsch Movement is an international movement of classical figurative painters, which define ‘kitsch’ on similar basis with Aristotle’s rationalized ‘Techne’.
The movement was born in 1998, upon a new philosophical understanding of kitsch – announced by Odd Nerdrum at his retrospective show at the Astrup Fearnley Museum of Modern Art in Oslo.
Kitsch motifs typically deal with the unchanging experiences of human life; sincere and narrative figurative painting.
Douglas has completed residencies at The Banff Centre among many other notable workshops and was a recipient of an Alberta Foundation for the Arts grant for his studies.
The artist will be in attendance.
